SC Engineering enters the Chinese market through its subsidiary, Cellontech

Ahn News 24, Jong-Min Ko reporter

Cellontech is engaged in the bio-collagen business.

Cartizol, which has become more powerful by adding tissue regeneration effects in addition to the existing symptom relief effects,

accounts for over 50% of our bio-collagen sales.

They aim to expand the global medical and beauty market through entry into the Chinese market,

and while the current Chinese filler market is saturated with H (hyaluronic acid) products,

they believe other products have a chance of success.

Easy Dong-an Clinic Gangnam Branch Holds Skin Aesthetic Academy for Prospective Chinese Medical Professionals

Easy Dong-an Clinic Gangnam Branch held the first Easy Dong-an Skin Aesthetic Academy to spread K-beauty and K-Medical to prospective Chinese medical professionals.

Approximately 100 Chinese prospective medical professionals participated over a total of four sessions.

This academy is a two-day program, and the completion details for each day are as follows.

Day 1: Theoretical lectures on representative skin beauty procedures such as Botox, fillers, and thread lifting, case studies of actual procedures, and sharing of procedural know-how.

Day 2: Experience of the Korean medical system, a tour of Easy Dong-an Gangnam Branch, and a live demonstration by CEO and Chief Physician, Jae-un Do. After the Day 2 lecture, the CEO personally awards certificates of completion.

Now, it's not just K-beauty, but K-medical culture has emerged.

In the past, it was Korea's beauty market, but now it seems that the category has expanded to the beauty (medical) market.

Hugel's HA (Hyaluronic Acid) Filler Sales Surge!

Money Today

Hugel is a company I'm very interested in.

Hugel's flagship product, 'Botulax', is the No. 1 product in the domestic market.

It can also be considered a core revenue source, as it was the first domestically produced product to successfully enter the Chinese market.

However, the growth rate has been insignificant.

The background of the revenue stagnation can be attributed to issues in the overseas market, such as the impact of partner company inventory depletion in China and the restructuring of European operations.

On the other hand, HA fillers have continued to generate sales growth in countries like the UK, France, and Germany where they have already entered the market, and with the acquisition of approval in 2022, sales to China have begun in earnest, resulting in a 40% year-on-year increase in sales. Furthermore, with the acquisition of approval in Thailand, the largest aesthetic surgery market in Southeast Asia, in July 2023, and plans for launch within the year, there is still room for further growth.

While it's the second-largest product for Hugel, HA fillers have surpassed botulinum toxin in terms of the number of procedures in some European countries, such as Italy, Spain, and Romania.

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), in 2021, botulinum toxin accounted for 7.31 million procedures (41.6%) and HA fillers for 5.28 million (30.0%). These two procedures, along with hair removal, are among the top three global aesthetic surgery procedures, accounting for 82% of the total.

Botulinum toxin and HA fillers are complementary products.

While botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles that create wrinkles,

HA fillers fill in sunken areas of the skin or add volume to make them plumper.

Jung-Hyun Kim, a researcher at Kyobo Securities, said, "Hugel's botulinum toxin sales have slightly increased this year, but the growth rate is slowing down."

Hugel's success in China, the world's largest producer of HA, is truly remarkable.

As Korean plastic surgery advanced, so did minor procedures.

It seems that Chinese people want to buy Korea's procedural know-how and accumulated data.

That's why they are opening academies to share their know-how, and China seems to want to apply it in their country.

I've been seeing a lot of wholesale and retail distributors trying to sell fillers lately.

The number of searches for "Botox" and "fillers" on the Naver Cafe Hwadosa has skyrocketed.

Does this mean the market is growing?

Accordingly, not only will filler wholesalers and retailers in Southeast Asia and China become more active, but also companies that deliver fillers and Botox will become more specialized and specific.
